Honey, I Shrunk the AI

All of Honey.
One quiet Mac app.

One click, and you save up to 40% of your token usage without quality loss.

Honey for Mac installs the Honey discipline into every coding agent you run, then sits in your menu bar counting the tokens, money and CO₂ you never spent.

The app

Quietly saving, everywhere you code.

One window shows everything: which agents Honey is trimming, what it saved you today, and the skills that load only when a session asks for them. Every figure is a modelled estimate against a no-Honey baseline, and the captions say so.

One switch per tool

Thirteen tools. Zero config files.

Honey detects the coding agents on your Mac and installs itself the way each one expects: a plugin, an extension, or a rule file. Flip the switch off and it removes itself just as cleanly.

Always there, never in the way

A honeypot in your menu bar.

One click shows what Honey saved, which agents it's trimming, and a mode pill to turn it up, down or off. Pause it for an hour when you want raw output; it resumes on its own.

  • Four modes (off, lite, full, ultra), applied everywhere at once
  • Live eco ticker: CO₂, dollars and tokens saved this session
  • Everything runs and stays on your Mac. No account, no telemetry.

Open source

Read the discipline before you trust it.

01

The discipline is MIT

Everything Honey actually does to your agents is public and MIT licensed: read it, fork it, run it by hand. The Mac app is free, but its own source stays closed.

02

Honest numbers

Savings are modelled counterfactuals, never measurements dressed up as facts. Carbon figures come from EcoLogits (MPL-2.0), and every caption in the app says what the number really is.

03

The same Honey

The app installs the exact open-source Honey that developers set up by hand. It just does the installing, the updating and the counting for you.

Honey for Mac, in short

Is Honey for Mac free?

Yes. There is no account, no trial, and nothing to unlock. The Honey discipline it installs is open source under MIT; the Mac app itself is closed source.

What does it need to run?

macOS 14 or later, on Apple Silicon or Intel. It ships as a single .pkg installer and lives in your menu bar.

Does it send my data anywhere?

No. Honey reads your local session ledgers to model savings and writes its config into your tools. Everything stays on your Mac, with no account and no telemetry.

How are the savings calculated?

They are modelled counterfactuals: what the same sessions would have cost without Honey, based on tracked token counts. Carbon figures come from EcoLogits (MPL-2.0), and every caption in the app labels its number as an estimate.

Does Honey change what my agents produce?

No. Honey shrinks the waste, not the substance. Code and technical terms stay exact; what goes is the filler, the hedging, and the work that never needed to happen.
