How apps ask smart follow-up questions
Answer clarifying questions with the facts the app needs, and tell it when a detail is unknown or should be left out.
An app may ask follow-up questions when your request lacks information needed for a useful result. The questions depend on the task; there is no fixed number of questions for every app or request.
Give useful context
For writing, explain the audience, purpose and tone. For research, specify the scope and what decision the research should inform. For document analysis, identify the file and the question you want answered.
If the app offers choices, select the one that fits or supply your own wording where a text input is available. Say “Not decided” when you do not know a detail. You can ask it to leave a placeholder rather than invent a fact.
If it asks the wrong question
Restate the goal and correct the misunderstanding. Ask for a narrower result if the task is too broad. Check the final output against your answers: a clarification step improves context, but does not guarantee factual accuracy.
