Dictating instead of typing

Turn speech into a draft message, review the transcription and send it when the wording is correct.

By GreenPT · 1 min read · English

Dictation turns speech into text. In GreenPT Apps, Dictate message is the microphone control near the composer when the feature is available. You can also use your phone keyboard’s own dictation feature.

Dictate a message

  1. Open a conversation and select the microphone control that is available.
  2. Allow microphone access when you intend to record.
  3. Speak clearly, then stop recording using the displayed control.
  4. Review the transcribed text, especially names, numbers and punctuation.
  5. Send the message when you are satisfied.

Dictation and sending are separate actions in the web composer. Do not assume releasing a microphone button automatically sends a message on every platform.

If the microphone does not work

Check the app or browser permission in device settings. Try the keyboard’s dictation or type your message instead. For meeting-length audio, use the Meetings app rather than a long dictated chat prompt.

For meeting recordings, follow Using Meetings. For the composer workflow without a microphone, see Starting your first conversation.
