How the energy indicator works

Understand reported inference energy, conversation totals and why an energy reading is not a complete lifecycle assessment.

By GreenPT · 1 min read · English

GreenPT attributes energy use to model processing and displays reported usage in the product. In Chat, the indicator presents a conversation-level value in watt-hours; account settings provide broader energy information.

What the reading means

Watt-hours measure energy, not money. A conversation can include multiple model calls and follow-up turns. During generation, a partial reading may increase as more work completes.

Use the methodology described in GreenPT’s energy work and the sustainability page to understand measurement scope. Energy and carbon figures depend on accounting boundaries and conversion assumptions.

What it does not establish

The displayed figure is not a complete measurement of your device, network, hardware manufacture or original model training. Missing data does not mean zero use. Avoid treating two different services’ numbers as comparable unless their methods and boundaries match.

For the product controls, see Reading the energy indicator.
